Introducing Damon & Pythias - A story of friendship
Pythias and his friend Damon, both followers of the philosopher Pythagoras, traveled to Syracuse. While there, Pythias was accused of plotting against Dionysius, the tyrant of Syracuse. As punishment for this crime, Pythias was sentenced to death. Accepting his sentence, Pythias asked to be allowed to return home one last time, to settle his affairs and put his house in order. Dionysius refused initially but after Damon offered himself as a proxy, he later agreed.
Dionysius was shocked one would make such an offer but convinced that Pythias would never return, and as time came and went, Dionysius prepared to execute Damon. But just as the executioner was about to kill Damon, Pythias returned. He apologized to his friend and told of how pirates had captured his ship on the passage back to Syracuse and thrown him overboard. Dionysius listened as Pythias described how he swam to shore and made his way back to Syracuse as quickly as possible, arriving just in time to save his friend.
Dionysius was so moved by the friends' trust, love, and loyalty, that he freed both Damon and Pythias, “I would give all my wealth to have one such friend”
This is an important story as it relates to an important concept of friendship - Faith in a Friend. Perspective was founded with this concept in mind. As friends, The Artist and The Analyst realized Perspective is a journey. And like most journeys, paths often cross and sometimes part ways but true friendship is never lost. As quickly as our paths crossed to create Season One, we must now part ways. The Artist, has taken on several new projects and opportunities while keeping (All Things Progressive and Reggie Black the Artist) highly successful. The Analyst will continue to develop Perspective and press forward on Perspective’s initial concept to explore the world through coffee.
